Sorry, no comic again. But there is colour… kind of.

I thought German uniforms of 1914 were all just one colour. The variations shown here came from a this site. They seem to have done much more work than me, so I’m taking their word for it.

The uniform also has red piping on the trousers, sleeve and collar, which is pretty sharp looking, I think.

One thing that I found particularly interesting is that the famous Pickelhaube helmet, was not as practical as i thought. It was originally made of boiled leather, which doesn’t doesn’t do a great job of stopping bullets.

It does do a great job of looking cool though.

The were generally covered by a light brown cover and the soldier’s unit was stenciled on it in green.
